History:
The idea for IAS began in 1994 as one of its founders, Arthur Talbot, took a part-time college job to work on the SchoolKids’ Records website in Ann Arbor, MI. In the “beginning”, business owners and organizations had a hard time understanding what was referred to as CyberSpace or how to make the most effective use of it. Being a completely new industry, Internet companies (mostly an individual guru type) often weren’t servicing client needs in a predictable quality and business-like manner but there weren’t many alternatives to choose from at the time.As business and organizations became more dependant on Internet services there was increasing demand for a one-stop professional Internet services company that could communicate to its clients in terms they were accustomed: value, quality, commitment and service. Out of personal interest Arthur called on Lionel Trains in Chesterfield, MI to see if they would be interested in how emerging Internet technologies could assist them with thier business goals. Lionel Trains became the first official client of the IAS company which was incorporated in August of 1995 as Internet Advertising Services, Inc. The name was chosen to help potential clients understand what IAS provided simply by reading the name.
Increasingly businesses, government municipalities and non-profit organizations moved toward interactive Web applications. Focusing on client needs and demand, IAS expanded into Web application development and managed application services. In 1997 IAS changed its name from Internet Advertising Services to Internet Applications & Solutions. Since 1997 IAS has been providing what became known in Internet industry terms as managed ASP services. By leasing its Web applications, IAS saw a way to offer clients use of powerful Internet solutions without the ramp-up time or prohibitive development expense typically associated with custom development. Currently IAS' development & hosting is split nearly 50/50 between Microsoft ASP/.NET & Linux/opensource platforms.
